The Essential Factors of Women Empowerment

The fight for women empowerment is a global issue that has been around for a long time. And even history tells us that women faced the same problems centuries ago—fighting for equality and basic rights. The world may be changing, but it still has the same factors that affect the progress for women empowerment.

Collectively or individually, as women, we have shared experiences and struggles that affect our sense of empowerment. If addressed, these factors also define what women empowerment should be all about. These are the essentials elements that will create empowered women that will break the norms and obstacles to create a world that perpetuates empathy and progress. Here, we have listed down five essential factors of women empowerment that you should know and talk about:

  1.   Education

According to UN Women, women make up more than two-thirds of the world's 796 million illiterate people. There are global statistics that prove girls’ lack of access to education, especially to rural communities.

Education is extremely important. It gives girls opportunities to be empowered women who have a life purpose and who can change their communities. Education plays a significant role in establishing women empowerment and the opportunity to live a quality life.

  1.   Employment Opportunities

Early in the 20th century, women were not given enough opportunity to seek their careers and passions. Even though things have changed, women still face this problem, especially women from marginalized sectors. If not this specific problem, women have less wage rate compared to men’s average wages.

Employment is an essential factor to form women empowerment. If more women are given opportunities, more children will have access to a better and happy life. It also allows empowered women to be more heard in different levels of economic development.

  1.   Social Protection

According to WHO, one in three women experiences physical or sexual violence in their lifetimes. It covers the unfortunate experiences of domestic abuse, rape, human trafficking, and gender-based violence. As they say, women die for simply being a woman.

Complete safety is never on the side of a woman. Let her walk on the streets alone and she will experience at least catcalling. Social protection is a vital part of women's empowerment. It diminishes all these violence that women experience daily.

  1.   Reproductive and Health Rights

Empowered women or not, their bodies are still being regulated—from political laws to even daily interactions. And sadly, these are not even on the side of women empowerment. Instead of laws about women’s reproductive and health rights, women are subject to political and social issues that fight against it. That’s why reproductive and health rights that are for women is important. With it, fewer women will die from pregnancy-related causes and more girls will grow into empowered women.

  1.   Action and Leadership

Studies show that leadership opportunities given to empowered women create economic and social development. Empowering women through this equates to empowering the world for the better. Not just an essential factor to women empowerment, women leadership opens new doors for women and men to craft a world of equality and opportunities.
